We were able to get almost everything ready for our trade show next month, so we took a long weekend to visit our daughter Nell and her husband Matt in Maine, leaving Alabu in the capable hands of our son Hal. He is taking on more and more of the responsibility of the business.

We had a great time visiting with our kids. We brought our dog Chia. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to find a few places you can vacation with dogs. The first night we stayed at a motel 6, which allow dogs at no extra charge. Chia wasn’t sure what to make of her first night in a motel. I think she was relieved when we arrived at our daughter’s house the next day, and had a grand time playing with their Portuguese water dog Echo;although Chia could not swim nearly as well as Echo. We went to Fort Knox. No, not the one that had the gold. This one is known as the first Fort Knox. The state recently built a new bridge there with an observation tower on top which was pretty cool. We also went to a sandy beach along the Penobscot River. If you have ever been to Maine you know finding a sandy beach is rare, and to make it even more interesting we saw several pairs of nesting osprey. We had a picnic lunch, played with the dogs in the water, watched birds, walked along the beach, and spotted a few wild flowers growing in the driftwood. It was a great day! On Sunday we went to church with Nell and Matt. Matt’s father is the Pastor. It is a new church and they meet in a rented building. They all work very hard. The message is good and they have a very innovative children’s program. You can find out more about their church here if you are interested.

After Church we headed home through several torrential downpours with lots of great memories from our trip. Now it’s back to work and finishing up some last minute details for the show.

Soap of the Month

We have had many requests to have a soap of the month sale, giving folks an opportunity to try a featured soap at a reduced price. This month we are featuring Cucumber Melon. It is perfect for cooling off on those hot summer nights. This fragrance is a light blend of refreshing cucumber and sweet melon, giving this soap a clean slightly sweet scent. Clearance Sale
August Clearance Soap Sale. We are bursting at the seams here at our Alabu workshop, and are still working on making room on our shelves by discontinuing some of our less popular soaps. This month we still have Honeysuckle and Paradise Retreat at reduced prices and when they are gone they are gone. We are truly sorry if we are discontinuing your favorite scent, but as we develop new products, we need to make room for them. The good news is at least you can stock up now at a discounted price. We will be making some fragrances available on a seasonal basis. NOTE: Coupons and special offers do not apply to clearance sale items.

Seconds
We still have some seconds and have added more to our seconds sale. We have increased production on our most popular soaps, and now have a limited supply of seconds which we are going to offer on our web page while supplies last. Our soap seconds are the same as our regular soap, but are made by taking the ends from the soap log and molding them to form a regular size bar. The only difference is that they do not look as pretty. We wrap seconds with a tissue paper band around the middle and seal it with our label. They are about the same weight and size as regular bars. The price will be $3.00 a bar, a substantial savings from our regular bath bars. NOTE: Coupons and special offers do not apply to Soap of the Month items.

Alabu Farm
This month we have pictures of the farm and our trip to Maine; Chia is still finding out what it means to be a water dog. It has also been a good year to watch a lot of birds; the cardinals, goldfinches, purple finches, bluebirds, and a large family of rose-breasted grosbeaks are all back, and this year we put up hummingbird feeders and we have lots of them. We also saw a scarlet tanager for the first time this year.

Hello all at Alabu! :) First, thank you for making such a wonderful, clean, natural product! A couple months ago, I was surfing the net for organic soaps for my fiance because of his sensitive skin! The first website I came across was yours and I knew my quest was over after reading your history, liking the design of the site itself, I ordered immediately! Then, I had to wait.....not too long!! The day your soap arrived in our mail box I knew it would be perfect because the mail box smelled soo nice...hee-hee!! Since, using your soap(s) my fiance's skin (and mine too) has improved greatly because of all the natural ingredients you pack into one bar of soap! Our skin is now smooth, acne free, dry free, rough spot free, and it glows! Using your soap makes us both feel truly clean and our skin is healthy!! I gave a bar of your soap to my sister for her to try and now she's hooked to your soap too! We just love, love, love, love, your soap! Almond Soap Sale

This is something in between a second’s sale and a clearance. We found a couple older boxes of Almond soap whose fragrance has faded significantly. However, when I washed with one of the bars, I noticed that is was an exceptionally nice bar to wash with. These bars are well aged and hard bars which should make them last a bit longer as well. So if you are in the market for a truly nice bar of soap with little or no fragrance at a reduced price these are for you. We are calling them seconds but they come in our regular pleated paper wrappers.
