We have had beautiful weather and color this fall which has lasted longer than I can ever remember. The leaves are absolutely brilliant and I sometimes do a double take to see if there is a fire out the window. All the animals have been healthy this month and we have taken a few trail rides. We have a lot of interesting photos this month from hot air balloons to tall ships to coyotes.
I have been asked many times how we came to name our company Alabu, so I thought I would answer the question here. My soap making adventures went from personal use and gifts to a full fledged business at the request of my husband Dean. He and a partner already had a small internet business for crafters. In late 1999 he decided he would like us to concentrate on the soap and sell the other part of the business to his partner. We puzzled and searched for names that we could incorporate under and had an available internet domain name. We brainstormed and goggled but to no avail. My last big idea was the name "Cebu." There is a Veggie Tales song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VeggieTales) "The Song Of Cebu" that I had always liked. It didn’t take long to find that the domain was already bought by a company in France. We were all disappointed and feeling like we would never find a suitable name. But it got us thinking, we liked the sound of it and Dean gave our kids the assignment to make up a name that we could use. Our Daughter Nell came up with the name Alabu, a search revealed it was available so we didn’t waste any time and took it. Since then we have always had a goat named Alabu. The first a beautiful white Cashmere goat we adopted out of a kidding of quadruplets and now our beautiful brown Nubian.
We hope you enjoy the newsletter this month.
Basil Soap
We have been a bit surprised that no one tried our new Basil Soap. Recently we discovered why. It turns out the Basil soap was never activated on the webpage. So if there is anyone out there who wanted to try our new Basil soap, you can order it now.
Our Seasonal scents for Christmas are now in stock
We have had a lot of inquires of when our seasonal soaps would be back and now here they are; Frankincense, Gingerbread, Maggie’s Christmas (Bayberry), Myrrh and Winter Wonderland. The soaps in bold type are also available in 1 oz. guest bar sizes.
Soap of the Month
We have had many requests to have a soap of the month sale, giving folks an opportunity to try a featured soap at a reduced price. This month we are featuring Anise. If you like black licorice you will love the sweet scent of this soap. It is also called the Fisherman's friend for its ability to neutralize odors, great for hunters too. And, don't forget the kitchen! Anise essential oil soap is a wiz at taking onion and garlic odors off your hands. NOTE: Coupons and special offers do not apply to Soap of the Month items.
November Clearance Sale
We are bursting at the seams here at our Alabu workshop, and are still working on making room on our shelves by discontinuing some of our less popular soaps. This month we still have Paradise Retreat at a reduced price, and when it's gone it's gone. We are truly sorry if we are discontinuing your favorite scent, but as we develop new products, we need to make room for them. The good news is at least you can stock up now at a discounted price. We will be making some fragrances available on a seasonal basis. NOTE: Coupons and special offers do not apply to clearance sale items.
Seconds
We have a lot of seconds this month that we have added to our seconds sale. We have increased production on our most popular soaps, and now have a limited supply of seconds which we are going to offer on our web page while supplies last. Our soap seconds are the same as our regular soap, but are made by taking the ends from the soap log and molding them to form a regular size bar. The only difference is that they do not look as pretty. We wrap seconds with a tissue paper band around the middle and seal it with our label. They are about the same weight and size as regular bars. The price will be $3.00 a bar, a substantial savings from our regular bath bars. NOTE: Coupons and special offers do not apply to Soap of the Month items.
Alabu Farm
This month we got carried away with our camera and have many pictures of our farm, fall foliage, and other interesting stuff.

We love hearing from our customers. We get a lot of notes each month and many we put up in our Testimonial section. We do not alter the notes that we get (other than the occasional spelling error or miss-placed word). We thought it might be helpful to highlight one each month that we found particularly interesting.
Dear Alabu: I really love doing business with you all. Thanks for getting the orders out so fast-we are having a party this weekend and your soaps make the bathroom smell so good, not to mention that I tell everyone how great the soaps are. Thanks for everything.

Basil Soap
I am a basil lover, for me it is a very relaxing scent, and I always have some growing in my garden. Our neighbors at the greenhouse have always told us we should make basil soap as fresh basil is always a big seller at the farmers market. I had tried a few basil essential oils over the years but I never thought they smelled good. Eventually I did find one I liked and we are now adding Basil soap to our Essential oil line of soaps. Basil has been traditionally used to refresh and stimulate. If you are a basil lover too we invite you try our new soap. We know Basil soap is not for everyone, but we hope you basil lovers out there will enjoy it.
