Here at Alabu we love autumn; the cool weather, the changing leaves, the sweet smells, even the rainy blustery days. So far we have had a few cool nights and even some frost warnings. The Leaves are starting to change but I have a feeling we are not entirely finished with the warm weather. We have had a few beautiful cool fall days and I was able to convince Dean he should take advantage of and go for a ride on the horses with me. Partly for him, (he didn't grow up with horses, but he has grown to love them) he needs to take some time off, partly for me, I feel guilty leaving him home as I know he will be working and partly for the horses as they are spoiled and hate to be separated. I guess I should include the goats in here too, as they find it more upsetting to be here with a distraught horse than to be left home alone .

Soap of the Month
We have had many requests to have a soap of the month sale, giving folks an opportunity to try a featured soap at a reduced price. This month we are featuring Gingerbread ($3.45) . It is offered as a seasonal soap and when it is gone it's gone till next fall. Our gingerbread smells just like the real thing. If it makes you hungry for gingerbread, here is a recipe .
Guest Bar Sale We are in the process of changing our guest bar shape to accommodate our new labels. The new guest bars will be 2 inch rounds. We have quite a few oval guest bars in stock that we are offering at a 20% discount. Stock up now for Christmas as these will make great stocking stuffers.
Seconds Sale
We still have some seconds and have added more to our seconds sale . We have increased production on our most popular soaps, and now have a limited supply of seconds which we are going to offer on our web page while supplies last. Our soap seconds are the same as our regular soap, but are made by taking the ends from the soap log and molding them to form a regular size bar. The only difference is that they do not look as pretty. We wrap seconds with a tissue paper band around the middle and seal it with our label. They are about the same weight and size as regular bars. The price will be $3.00 a bar, a substantial savings from our regular bath bars
October Clearance Soap Sale
We are still working on making room on our shelves by discontinuing some of our less popular soaps. We have decided to discontinue our Spicy Lime soap scent. We are truly sorry if we are discontinuing your favorite scent, but we have been trying to drop some of our slow sellers for years.
Skin Soother Sample Pack
We get a lot of requests from people asking us to recommend a product that will best suit the needs of their particular skin
problem. We can make suggestions, but we have found that everyone's skin is different, and we may not be able to suggest the
soap or moisturizer that will give each individual the best result.
To help our customers find the best product for their own skin needs, we have packaged together some of our most popular
specialty soaps and moisturizers at a reduced price. The sample pack includes 3 guest bars (Baby me, Neem and Tea Tree)
and 2 moisturizers (Baby Face Oil and our Shea Butter Lotion Stick).
If you have friends that have a skin problem and are not sure which soap to try, tell them about our Skin Soother Sample
Pack so they can take advantage of our introductory offer of $15.25, which is 20% off our regular price.
A Hard Decision
Once again we are sharing a difficult experience that we know others have or are facing too. We have had the pleasure of having our Canaan dog Roka, for 14 years. She had been a very healthy dog all of her life and most people where surprised to learn how old she was because she could still race around like a pup after she got over her morning stiffness. The last year though we saw that we were losing her, the vet said it was senility. She seemed to pace mindlessly and walk by us as if we were not even there. She was steadily moving out of our world. Eventually life just got too difficult for all of us and we were faced with the hard decision. As my sister pointed out it has to be about quality of life, your pets and your own. Our pets can't tell us when it's time. We are entrusted with the responsibility of that decision. And we do so with love and compassion.
There are many opinions about when it is time. Some think it is when the dog no longer enjoys life to the fullest, another thinks it is when there is more pain in their life than pleasure or when a dog can no longer eat. Some say it is when you look into your dog's eyes and they aren't there anymore, as if their soul has left them, the interest in their life; family, food, the mailman etc are all gone. When that happens it does seem as if your dog is already gone. When we have a pet we accept that we will outlive them and that we will be responsible to make that final decision for them. It seems it is always too soon and always too difficult. There is one good thing we have gained from this; Dean & I went through this together and supported each other in a way that has made us even closer, but we still miss out faithful friend.

This month we have a few pictures from our favorite local county fair. We have also had requests for more pictures of our horses to which we will gladly comply; we think they are beautiful too.
