The weather is starting to cool off here in upstate NY, but I'm sure our few days of 100 degree heat doesn't’t compare with what most parts of the country have had to deal with this summer. We are thankful that we have been able to enjoy a few absolutely gorgeous days in between the hot and wet ones.

Soap of the Month
We have had many requests to have a soap of the month sale, giving folks an opportunity to try a featured soap at a reduced price. This month we are featuring Apple Spice($3.45), as here in upstate New York it is the start of apple season. It is reminiscent of the fragrance of a classic Mulled Apple Cider.

Seconds Sale
It’s time for another seconds sale. We have increased production on our most popular soaps, and now have a limited supply of seconds which we are going to offer on our web page while supplies last. Our soap seconds are the same as our regular soap, but are made by taking the ends from the soap log and molding them to form a regular size bar. The only difference is that they do not look as pretty. We wrap seconds with a tissue paper band around the middle and seal it with our label. They are about the same weight and size as regular bars. The price will be $3.00 a bar, a substantial savings from our regular bath bars

Clearance Soap Sale
We are still working on making room on our shelves by discontinuing some of our less popular soaps. We have decided to discontinue our Raspberry soap scent. We are truly sorry if we are discontinuing your favorite scent, but we have been trying to drop some of our slow sellers for years.

Saying Goodbye
I'm sure there are many of you sharing our empty nest experience. About a week ago we took our son Hal to Tennessee to attend college there. We always knew this day would come and have always tried to teach our kids to become independent to prepare them for this day. But it is hard to prepare yourself for letting go. It is strange to experience so many mixed emotions.

My husband recalls his mother always telling us the years our kids are home would fly by and she was right. I recall the minutes before the birth of our first child, feeling panicked I uttered I want to go home; I don’t even know if I'm ready to have a baby. Of course I wanted our baby more than anything and was so happy when she came. I had a similar emotion on the way to drop off our son. I had a moment of panic and did not feel like I was ready to launch into this new stage. I can’t exactly say I'm thrilled yet but I know this is all part of God’s plan.

We will miss him, when he is around it’s never boring. When he was younger his thirst for knowledge and adventure brought endless questions and some scary situations. His sense of humor kept us going through the years of home schooling. We will also miss him at Alabu while he is at college. He was not very interested in Alabu when we first started. You can imagine how a 12 yr old boy would feel about his mom making soap. But he has developed a keen business sense and his help over the past few years has been invaluable to us. His main area of expertise started out with his technology skills. However, now he has branched out into almost every aspect of our business. Hal is a risk taker but at the same time very balanced. He rarely gets upset because he tries to look at the big picture and sees the futility in worrying about things you can’t change. We are excited for him and anxious to see what he will be up to next.
